    I have tried for a month to knit and purl.. So frustrated!!! I watched your video twice, and it all clicked! You are a great teacher! Thank you so much! P. S. I am 82 and taught myself to crochet 4 years ago . Now, with your help, I’m learning to knit!!! ❤

      I’m really glad you stuck with it even through the frustration. Knitting can test one’s nerves in the beginning. Managing the needles, holding the yarn, figuring out the best way to tension for you while distinguishing the stitches and memorizing stitch patterns takes patience and practice. It’s worth persevering and I’m glad you did! Thank you for the kind comment, I really appreciate it 🙏

      I am so glad that this video was helpful for you. I’m a visual learner too 😊 Shaping with short rows is such a useful technique, but even more useful when one can see exactly how the fabric is being built up.

    never done this before - tried it and accidently fond it easier if you place your right hand needle against the left before you yarn over - just a thought

    Can I also do this with a v-neck top-down sweater? Thank you

    • @MariaXuxenaKnittingTutorials
      @MariaXuxenaKnittingTutorials Год назад

      I generally use this technique to raise the back of the neck and on a v-neck you don't really need to do that because there is already shaping for the front of the sweater. But, there might be other reasons that you may need additional height in the back even for a v-neck. So, yes, you could use short rows to raise the back higher or even to do all of the shoulder shaping.

    Does it make a difference if you place the short rows in a top down sweater before of after dividing for the sleeves for the end result?

    • @MariaXuxenaKnittingTutorials
      @MariaXuxenaKnittingTutorials Год назад

      It depends on what your end goal is. Keep in mind that when you're working short rows the center part of the short rows is adding height to the fabric. If you're trying to raise the back neck it's better to place the short rows closer to the neck area. If you're trying to add height to accommodate a larger bus then it's better to place the short rows in the bust area. The same goes if you want to accommodate a rotund belly then you would add your short rows for the additional height in the belly area.

    Thank you for the video on making a raglan jumper. I found the simple and drawn diagram and written out rules really clear and easier to follow. Now I realise that one of my arm raglans is too short and doesn't match the back raglan I suppose I will just have to rip this arm back to where the shaping starts all the other bits fit. Should I just measure the back of my raglan jumper from where the shaping starts and try to make it match. Any tips would be greatly received. I am a beginner.

    Hi. thank you for the tutorial. when you say work the wrap, do you mean close the gap? so if i was using japanese short row, i would pull the marker to create a stitch, then knit two together (or purl if i'm on the wrong side) to close the gap?

    • @MariaXuxenaKnittingTutorials
      @MariaXuxenaKnittingTutorials 3 года назад

      Yes - if you're using the wrap and turn method for short rows, working the wrap means picking up the wrap with the wrapped stitch to close the gap. For Japanese short rows, to close the gap, it means pulling the marker to create a stitch and knitting the two together as you said. Thanks for watching my video!
